In designing Children’s Village, his driving philosophy was simple: “What would I, as a child, like to do.” But his conception of what a child might like to do was shaped by a childhood so full of Dickensian deprivation and casual violence that the idea of transplanting that experience to quiet 1970s Toronto is impossible to imagine.
If they think they’re going to get all of this planning and analysis done plus building by 2027, they really must be on cannabis or something.
“If the Premier decides he wants a casino, he’s going to get a casino.”
Sure, a great part of Doug Ford’s motivation for shrinking Toronto City Council is spite, but part of it is surely this. If he wants to have his way with Toronto, he needs a compliant Council, and the 25 wards tips the balance of power in favour of conservative, suburban, Ford-allied Councillors. I’m pretty sure I’ve read that gaming companies were major Ford campaign donors, although I can’t find the link now. Plus, there’s this article …
So that’s some news.
Unbelievable. Am I wrong in wanting to know the name of the driver?
This, with the aforelinked article, should bring you mostly up to speed, other than the fact that 29 PC candidates are implicated in this (clients of Dhillon).
The majesty of this scandal is that the deadline for submitting new candidates was yesterday. So if Ford wants to do the right thing and get rid of these clowns, he will almost certainly lose the election since these are all 905-region candidates that he needs to win. Whereas if he doesn’t get rid of them, he looks more corrupt than any liberal (arguable I guess).
This article, from April, is a decent backgrounder for the Doug Ford / 407 scandal
I had a feeling this might happen. But now the NDP are going to get a battering from both sides.
That’s great, but I hate how the Liberals don’t do anything unless there’s an election on the horizon. They could have saved lives by doing this years ago.
On the proposed replacement for the not well-loved Ontario Municipal Board
Nice profile of my pal Ed aka Retrontario
The Ontario Liberals don’t believe in anything, do they?
