Overcrowded streetcars, uninterested drivers part of the rolling horror show on Queen
This nightmare is all true, as any rush-hour streetcar rider can tell you (well, I’ve never seen a bike on a streetcar at rush hour). But as for what to do about it? Multi-door loading on the new streetcars will help. But I would say:
- Left-hand turn restrictions during rush hour for sure. Easiest fix.
- More streetcars, period. As they add new ones, keep the old ones going.
- Better management – short turns and bunching need to be reduced.
- Good luck getting “vehicle bans on King, Queen, Dundas and College streets during rush hour”. But King would be your best first candidate – the streetcar lane downtown is already legally a designated streetcar lane, it’s just not enforced. Plus, that whole thing about it carrying more riders than the Sheppard subway.
