Cure For Cancer

My cabbie gave it to me last night. He had it scrawled on a cab receipt and encouraged me to copy it down – here’s what I can read – “reishi Mushroom,” “cinnamon powder,” “Raw Honey,” “Miracle Off Fasting,” “HF Store,” “Distilled water,” “366 Spadina.” He supplied numerous personal anecdotes as testaments to its efficacy, he waved a package of pills around, he talked near-gibberish at a hundred miles an hour and drove at about the same speed.

366 Spadina is home to the International Watch & Trading Co. (wholesalers) and The Herb Depot (Chinese drug store). Perhaps the key lies in there somewhere?

I love fun cabbies… I once had one that decided to ask me very detailed questions about the racial and sociological implications of serial rapists while driving me to my then-remote home at 4a.m. We had a great discussion.

I once had one ask me why people thought it was safe to put a drunk girl in a cab and assume she’d make it home. Yikes! This was at 4 am, I was alone and very drunk.

in those moments, i always wonder if i should say “y’know, if i were *any other* girl, i might find this really uncomfortable”. but i’m usually too engrossed in the conversation, or too drunk, or both, to bother…

in mexico, i had a cabbie take a random turn on his way downtown. when i asked him what he was doing, he said “oh, you don’t mind if we pick up my kids from school, do you?”

I used to have this evil scheme with cabbies when I was in highschool. I’d get in and say I needed to go to X but I only had $5.00, could they take me as close as that would last. Invariably either they demand explanation for my financial mismanagement, or want to give me advice about it – but they’d take me the whole way. I just figured the price deficit reflected either the cost of my story, or the cost of listening to their fatherly speech.

Someone needs to check out 366 Spadina. I have a feeling this is the start of a Lynch film.
