hell-ass-damn!

My new demonchild computer came in. I’m tricking it out as we speak. As I speak, rather. Or, rather, as I blah blah blah… and now back to the out-tricking.

I just got a PowerBook G4 at work a couple of weeks ago. Believe me, you’re gonna love it.

It kicks my fucking ass. Talk about backside cache. The monitor is a dream – I viewed selected scenes of LOTR from the comfort of my own bed, and it’s much much better than my tv.

It actually does realtime rendering of dissolves etc. in FCP – that used to be one of the big advantages of Avids. Haven’t tested Aftereffects performance yet.

I’ve been bulking it up with all the software & files, and next I move on to digitizing my entire music collection.

Also, X 10.2 is a beautiful system. I’m ditching Entourage in favour of mail/address book/iCal.

But– I need a name for my new beast! Help me!

Congrats on the new ‘puter. I don’t think I ever loved a machine before I got my TiBook. Tonight I’m making the upgrade to 10.2, and I can’t wait.

If you get the Airport base station (which I highly recommend) you’ll have to name your network, too, so keep that in mind when thinking of names.

  4. D says:

Yeah, I can’t decide what my next tech splurge is, airport or ipod. One at a time now! Damn expensive apple gear. I’ve heard that the tibook’s airport reception isn’t great, is that true?

Names for D’s Snazzy New Electronic Abacus:

    Ham on Rye
    Sammy Tang
Sparky, the Happiest Computer in the West
    Hamish
    Lord Cornelius Thistlewick III
Oops, I Just Came On My Keyboard

  6. Sassy says:

Wow, wicked computer, its a beauty all right. I don’t pretend to know a lot about technology and computers but my next purchase would totally be an ipod and opposed to an airport, its all about the music.

  7. adam says:

    *drools*

    Call it Godzilla.

  8. marijke says:

I vote for Sparky the Happiest Computer in the West.

Oddly enough, Sparky has been my word of the day today.

  9. D says:

    Sparkzilla? The Droolmaker?

Need a little more hiphop in there, something edgy, something fresh…

  10. mageebags says:

    More hip-hop, eh?

    DJ E-Z Download
    Terminal X
    MC 0010110

  11. D says:

    Sir Kix-A-Lot?

(I don’t know what that means.)

    MC Flyzilla
    Senor 768 MB RAM
    Li’l Metal Buddy
*what’s the robot’s name in Short Circuit?*

  12. marijke says:

    his name was Number 5

(awfully lame for such a sexy machine as yours)

  13. adam says:

I like C 0010110, but it would be awkward to say. Go with MC Flyzilla.

  14. king says:

I remember Stevie Gutts calling the robot in Short Circuit
Johnny 5, hence the El Debarge track

  15. dan says:

Looks supermotherfunky. I still like my little toy quite a lot though. Not sure if I’d swap you …

  16. mageebags says:

I gotta say, watching Number 5 get down to “Who’s Johnny?” is one of the more surreal cinematic experiences I’ve ever had.

And that’s including my torturish viewing of Michael Snow’s “Wavelength”.

  17. D says:

I still can’t decide on a name, motherfucker’s still called “Macintosh HD”, which is just sad.

I’m tempted to call it Mechagodzilla. I love mechagodzilla.

Dan – while your Dell probably processes circles around my new flyboy, it doesn’t have that screen. The sort of screen that reaches out and slaps you in the face and says, “hey, bitch, I’m a screen!” Plus, I don’t think I could live without OS X. Who’s kidding who.

  18. dan says:

Dunno. I think my dell was feeling a bit jealous. In cyberspace, no one can see your screen. Call it Ripley?
